There is a lot said about “ask and it will be given” but what most of us don’t realize is that what you ask for may not be the best answer. The Universe may have a better answer, you just have to be open to receiving it.
I struggled with this myself and still do at times. I would wonder why all the books make it sound like you will get anything you want if you just ask for it, but when I tried it I didn’t quite get what I asked for. I actually got better.
I learned that the key is being happy. Be happy with what you already have while asking for more. Be open to different answers than what your own mind created as the “be all end all.”
Here are my 3 tips to asking and receiving:
- Be clear what you are asking for. For example, change I want to make more money this year into I would like to earn $80K+ this year. Realize “more money” could be $1 but when you have a number in mind you are striving for, you have something clear the Universe can help you reach.
- Ask for what you want and be open to suggestions. For example, if you are asking for a raise at your job, don’t demand more money or you will leave. Instead explain what you are looking to earn and be open to that coming in different ways than just your paycheck. Maybe it’s a benefits package for your family that your employer pays for. Maybe it’s bonus checks or side projects that you can help with. Ask but be open to your employers suggestions for how things can happen. Or if you are self-employed, be clare on your numbers and what you need to reach them (additional projects, new clients or customers) and as hard as this seems, once you have your list, sit with it quietly and listen to feedback from the Universe. I promise, it is there. You just need to be open to it.
- Remember, the Universe always says yes, whether its something you want or don’t want. The Universe doesn’t understand negatives so if you say “I don’t want to struggle financially” the Universe takes out “don’t” and gives you what you want – the struggle. Change that instead to say “I will be financially secure” and put your focus on the positive ways to do that. What you focus on grows so make sure your focus is clear, positive and on what you really want to happen.
I invite you to start incorporating these 3 tips into your life. Start small to try it out and get used to it, then expand from there as you get comfortable and see the positive results you get. Have fun with the process and don’t take yourself too seriously. Life should be fun, not hard. The more fun you have, the more positive energy you have. That helps not only you but also those around you.
Start asking and being open to new answers and you may just be amazed at some of the things you see happen in your life.
